A Lumley Castle Wedding // Durham Wedding Photographer
Eeee man, this was my first wedding at the stunning Lumley Castle, and what a wedding it was!
It’s an actual CASTLE!!! Whaaaat!?
Keeley and Mike embraced the castle vibe and had a Disney theme to their wedding, the whole day was incredible!
From Lumley Castle:
“Standing proud for more than 600 years, the magnificent spectacle of Lumley Castle dominates the County Durham landscape. Surrounded by beautiful parklands overlooking the River Wear and Durham County Cricket Ground, Lumley Castle is a magnificent monument to a bygone age of chivalry and honour.
Located between the historic city of Durham and the vibrant city of Newcastle, perfectly situated to explore the North East of England. Lumley Castle is undoubtedly one of the finest Durham hotels and UK business and leisure destinations, effortlessly combining old and new to create a truly unique and memorable travel experience.”
Keeley and Mike wrote this about choosing Lumley Castle:
Keeley: I wanted a Disney or Harry Potter inspired wedding. Mike wasn’t particularly bothered, “as long as you are happy” etc. We looked round quite a few venues in the North East and non felt particularly magical to me until we went to Lumley Castle. It was very Hogwartsy and just felt right as soon as we looked round.
I wanted a Disney theme as I’ve been obsessed since I was a child and it has always been and will always be a part of my life. We wanted to keep it classy and subtle and not full blown Mickey heads everywhere (maybe for the vow renewal though).
I made Disney inspired centrepieces myself and each table was based off a different film so some people sat Under the Sea, some at Pride Rock, some at Agrabah etc. I came down the aisle to “Tale as old as time” and we came out to “Hakuna Matata”
About the Wedding Day
Keeley and Mike’s favourite part of the day was saying their vows in front of everyone they love, and everyone who loves them.
“It’s so nice just to have everyone in one place and happy and excited for you. Also the evening when everyone was well oiled and ready to party”
I asked them what would be a good tip for future Brides and Grooms:
“Just enjoy it, shit will go wrong, people will drop out last minute, something will be forgotten. It doesn’t matter. As long as you’ve got the rings and the registrar you’re good. Try and take five minutes for you and your partner to really step back back and have a moment to enjoy it together.”
I also asked them about how they found having their pictures taken, as i know some people don’t enjoy it!
“In the nicest possible way, just ignore Daz. We were that busy getting on with the day that we never really noticed him just working away and doing his thing and the best pictures are the ones where no one is paying attention to the camera.”
