The Principal Hotel Wedding // York Wedding Photographer
Hiya! This is my first time shooting The Principal Hotel York wedding and I want to start by saying that picture above is one of my favourites that I’ve taken! I love York as it is, and every time I think about it, it involves arriving there by train, so it was so cool we got to head into the station for some pictures!
You’ve probably already seen Kirsty and Dans beautiful wedding featured on Brides Up North, but I want to share it too! It was an amazing day, and with it being a 10am ceremony Kirsty and Dan were totally up for heading throughout the city for pictures at different times during the day.
“We went for an elegant/romantic theme. I wanted everybody to walk in and think wow! We had a dusky pink and silver colour scheme. We chose the silver due to men being in grey tails and wanted it to tie in with what they were wearing. When I saw the swatch colour for the bridesmaid dresses I fell in love straight away and then started to look at flower arrangements and just knew the two colours would go together perfectly.”
From getting mobbed by tourists in York City Centre during the photos, to making Dan and Kirsty climb a fire escape just as a thunder storm rolled in overhead, it was a dream to photograph.
The Principal Hotel in York
Honestly, The Principal Hotel is breath taking (considering I didn’t actually know it was there, because I’ve always just walked straight past the entrance). Pulling into the car park you are greeted by this huge and amazing building, and I knew it was going to be amazing for pictures. Plus there is a friendly geordie on the door who is a right laugh!
Kirsty: “We fell in love with the venue’s staircase and black and white tiled hallway when we first saw it. It took our breath away and we knew this is where we wanted to celebrate our big day. To style the venue we had candelabras with a flower arrangement around them in the centre of the tables and had a long arrangement for the top table. We had a variety of flowers put in different pots dotted around the room on shelves also. They were all provided by Dutch Nurseries.”
Kirsty: “I’d say my favourite part of the day was spending the morning getting dressed and made-up and then being able to walk down the most amazing staircase I’ve ever walked down towards my husband to be. It was lovely to walk into the ceremony room to see all of our close family and friends there and Dan stood at the bottom.”
As I said earlier, we had the full day for pictures with the ceremony being at 10am, so we went out in the Wedding Car to York Minster for some pictures, and then went for a walk around the shambles (and got mobbed by tourists as you’ll see). We also went back out after the evening food and popped into the bar, where these guys got some free cocktails! After that we went to the train station and got some lush pictures inside there. It always makes my day when couple want to head out and explore to get some different pictures.
Kirsty also says a tip for future brides and grooms would be to hire an amazing photographer to be able to capture the most amazing pictures of your day (I know someone).
Also, take five minutes together to just talk as it goes so fast!
“Daz captured our day perfectly, and he was amazing! Everybody felt comfortable around him and he was so friendly and relaxed. His style is amazing and his pictures are beautiful. They aren’t the typical wedding shots, which we loved! We have recommended him to everybody we know that is getting married.”
