a knipe hall wedding // Lake District Wedding Photographer
Here it is, the stunning wedding of Hen and Tag at the amazing Knipe Hall in Penrith. I’ve photographed here before and I LOVE it, its so beautiful it never disappoints!
The drive over for me was full of heavy rain, and flooded roads, but as soon as I pulled up at Knipe Hall, the sun burst through the clouds and the rest of the day was bright blue skies and a beautiful sunset, which Hen and Tag kindly let me drag them off to photograph.
As I said above, Knipe Hall is such a beautiful venue, and you pretty much get use of the entire hall and house. Plus I’m an absolute sucker for a Lake District wedding.
From the venue: “Knipe Hall is an early 17th century, Grade II-Listed period farmhouse and wedding venue set in three acres of land and nestled in the idyllic and tranquil Lowther Valley, with south and west-facing gardens.”
From Hen and Tag: “Hen and I got engaged in October 2016. Having been together for over 5 years, we were so excited to plan our wedding, we wanted to set a date in 2017. With our hearts set on a wedding in the Lake District, it was disappointing to find that lots of venues were booked up. But we had a stroke of luck, when a summer date in our favourite venue became available due to a party cancellation. We were over the moon, and set about making plans to book the ceremony. We were able to send our ‘Save the Date’ magnets out with our Christmas cards, and gave ourselves a rather ambitious 8 months to plan the wedding of our dreams.
We looked at lots of different venues across Cumbria, but decided against a ‘package wedding’ in a hotel. We wanted to find a venue that we could decorate ourselves, with a relaxed atmosphere, and the option to bring in our own caterers and entertainment. We fell in love with Knipe Hall the moment we saw it. The attached self-catering accommodation meant we could turn our wedding into a full family event, complete with hot tub! We decided to hold the ceremony in the barn, have a drinks reception on the lawn, and then a sit-down meal in the old dairy! We were able to supply our own alcohol, use the built-in PA system, and furniture. The gardens and rolling landscapes of the Eastern Fells promised to be the perfect backdrop for our wedding day too.”
The wedding was stunning from start to finish. Pulling up and seeing how beautifully these guys had decorated the barn, to being outside with guests while they enjoy their drinks just made the day and absolute pleasure to capture.
Hen and Tag: “We wanted a rustic, country feel, with lots of personal touches. The whole family were involved in collecting and making decorations. I created a garland of fir cones from our home in Suffolk, Hen’s dad made wooden crates that we filled with photo frames and home-grown flowers. Hen made name places out of hand-painted slate coasters, and her Grandad cut giant daisies from his garden for the centre pieces. Hen also made the cake with her mum, decorating it with painted flowers and sugar buttons, topped off with a measuring tape and two bobbins from her Grandma’s sewing box.
“Daz was fantastic, he arrived early in the morning and despite the terrible rain and the rush to get ready, he immediately put us at ease.”
We’re not used to being the centre of attention, but he helped us relax, to capture some natural, beautiful photos. Daz got chatting with both families, so when the weather improved, he could quickly pull us together for some lovely group shots. We took a walk over the field, which gave us time to pause and take in the day! We laughed and scrambled over the rocks, Daz let us lead the way and got all the pictures we wanted. One big tip for couples: If you want to take lots of group photos, make sure you ask your ushers and groomsmen to help, and make plans for a big group photo, with some bubbles or confetti! This is one of our faves!”
I also asked Hen and Tag what their favourite part of their day was, and if they had any tips for future brides and grooms. They totally bigged me up here and I’m buzzing about what they said to be honest!
“The favourite part of the day was marrying the love of my life! We were both so excited, I could barely get my words out! Seeing all of our friends and family in one place, having the best time, the dance floor was always full, as our guests joined in with the celidah band! Everyone looked so happy, it was perfect.
Our top tips are – Book Daz as your photographer! With Daz’s help, we also took some quiet time on our own, which is so important. Plan the day that you want, not the day that you think you should have, or what other people want. Make a weekend of it, we had a BBQ the day after the wedding which was a great way to catch up with all of our guests.”
