A Thirsk Lodge Barns Wedding
What a wedding day! I do love Thirsk Lodge Barns as a wedding venue because I think it’s great! Lots of lovely land, nice beautiful natural light and also a great space for everyone to hang out and have a good time! Plus with it being exclusive use, it means it’s all your for the day!
Amy and Billy got married here and made it completely their own, there was Dinosaurs and Disco balls throughout the day, and that’s a bit of me!
With Thirsk Lodge Barns, both parties were getting ready here in separate areas which was excellent for pictures because it meant I could go between and photograph everybody for prep pictures and then also be with both parties as well as getting pictures of guests as they arrive.
“As soon as we walked into the ceremony room with the twinkling fairy lights, I remember Billy saying “We’re getting married here aren’t we” We liked that there was different areas but that they also flowed together without loosing sight of guests.
I liked that the courtyard was pretty central also as quite often people who need to go outside are then out of the loop and miss things. Picking a November date was risky with the British weather but the cosy vibes of fairy lights, fire pits and candle light set against the darkness of countryside really made an impact.
Our theme for the day was DINOS AND DISCO BALLS!! From the moment we got engaged everyone knew our wedding wouldn’t be the norm. We said we wanted to put our stance on things and feature bits that we loved, but subtly….not in your face out there….well until the inflatable dinosaur dancing!
Everyone…and I mean everyone…commented on Daz being there and being part of the day rather than being the typical people expected.
We felt at ease all day, the casual heckling helped relax everyone too! A lot of people thought Daz was ‘just one of (y)our mates that had been roped in’ and I think that was a really good hit.
From getting ready to sitting on the bar at the end of the night, we really did just laugh and banter through. If you want a certain shot, in a certain way, doing something in particular don’t hold back…make it happen!
Our favourite part of the day? Are we meant to say the vows here?! In all honesty, we loved the full day. The food was unreal, the vibes were good, the band were fab and Billy even managed to get a game on the Xbox!
If we could give advice to future brides and grooms it would be to do what you want, it’s your day not theirs, have the fun bits you want to have. As much as everyone says this and it does sound cheesy, it really is the two of you that matter, make time for each other on the day. Thirsk lodge barns has a VIP room just for the couple during the day too which was a great addition, meaning we could take 5 every now and then to check in with each other.”
I hope you love these wedding photos as much as I do! If you’re getting married at Thirsk Lodge Barns, get in touch for a brochure, I absolutely love photographing weddings here!
